A resounding fall for Barcelona against Benfica in the Champions League

Barcelona suffered a 3-0 defeat away from Benfica, adding to the pressure on coach Ronald Koeman as the Spanish side’s Champions League hopes waned.

Barcelona is bottom of Group E without points from two games, six points behind leaders Bayern Munich, and four points behind Benfica.

The match started poorly for the Catalan club when Darwin Nunez opened the goals after 3 minutes from the start with a low shot to the side of the post from close range.

Defender Lucas Verisima saved an attempt from Luc de Jong from close range, as Barcelona seemed close to returning to the match, but it was the least dangerous team throughout the match.

Nunez almost added the second goal 5 minutes after the start of the second half when his long-range shot bounced off the post after passing goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

But 21 minutes before the end, coach George Jesus’ team managed to add the second goal through Rafa Silva with a close-range shot.

Nunez scored his second personal goal with a penalty kick in the 79th minute before the bad night for Barcelona turned even worse when Eric Garcia was sent off for a second yellow card in the 87th minute.
