Covid-19: Martinique again confined, Guadeloupe reinstates a curfew

The health situation “worsens” in Martinique and the Covid-19 figures “explode” on the island, where the perfect announced, Wednesday, July 28, new confinement from Friday 7 p.m. for a period of at least three weeks. In Guadeloupe, faced with the “meteoric” progression of contaminations, a state of health emergency was declared on Wednesday and a curfew was established there from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The overseas departments and territories are not the only ones affected by this outbreak of the epidemic, which affects the whole of France. As of Wednesday, nearly 1,000 patients ill with a severe form of Covid-19 were being treated in critical care units, according to health data attesting to an outbreak of contaminations. Critical care services are welcoming 992 patients, up from 859 a week ago. The number of positive cases recorded, nearly 28,000 Wednesday, reached its highest level since April 28. The positivity rate (proportion of positive cases compared to the number of people tested) remained stable at 4.1%. The disease has claimed 40 patients in 24 hours in the hospital, for a total of nearly 112,000 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
