James Bond challenges Amazon’s deal to stay in theaters

The James Bond film producers said in a statement to Variety that the films will remain in theaters despite the acquisition of MGM by Amazon, the franchise owner of the popular adventure film series.

“We are committed to continuing to make James Bond films available to movie audiences around the world,” said producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael J. Wilson, who run Eon Productions, a London-based company, on Wednesday.

The James Bond franchise is by far the most important asset of MGM, which struck an $ 8.45 billion deal with Amazon on Wednesday that gives Amazon TV and Live the right to a massive library of movies and TV shows.

MGM says that James Bond films have made about $ 7 billion in cinemas globally. It is expected that the new movie in this series, “No time to die”, will be released in cinemas during the month of September, after several delays due to the Corona pandemic.
