Australian Open … Serena investigates Halep on her way to a landmark title

Serena Williams, the veteran American, continued her journey steadily towards the semi-finals of the Australian Open tennis tournament, the first of the Grand Slams, by beating world number two Romanian Simona Halep in two sets for nothing.

The 7-time Australian champion appeared unbeatable at the Road Liver Arena, in her 20th appearance in Melbourne and 77th in the Grand Slam.

The 39-year-old American managed to provide her best performance in the tournament so far, relying on her strong defense and clinching the first group 6-3.

But Halep started the second group strongly and managed to break the world number 10, but she did not maintain her lead, allowing Serena to return strongly and resolve the second set 6-3 and qualify for the semi-finals.

Serena will meet Japanese Naomi Osaka, who reached the same round at the expense of Taiwanese Hsieh Su-Wei 6-2 6-2.

This is the ninth time that Serena has reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open, as she is seeking her 24th title in the major tournaments and equaling Australian Margaret Court.

Serena came close to equaling the record number of big titles on 4 previous occasions by reaching the Wimbledon final in 2018 and 2019 and the Flushing Meadows final in 2018 and 2019 as well, but she lost each time.
