Egypt agrees with Siemens to start implementing the express electric train project

The official spokesman for the Egyptian presidency, Bassam Radi, said that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi briefed Joe Kaiser, President, and CEO of Siemens, on Wednesday, about a final agreement whereby the company will establish an integrated system for the express electric train in Egypt, with a total length of about 1,000 kilometers nationwide.

Radi added, on his official Facebook page, that the total cost of the project amounts to 360 billion pounds (about 23 billion dollars), provided that the immediate implementation of the line project that connects the city of Ain Sukhna (on the Red Sea) to the new city of Alamein (on the Mediterranean Sea) begins. Passing through the New Administrative Capital (East Cairo) with 15 stations, with a length of 460 km, and a two-year implementation period.

Global competition

The competition for the implementation of the project was confined to two consortia. The first included companies “Ivec”, “chinastate” and “crec” from China, and “Siemens” German, and “France Railways”, in addition to “Orascom” and “Arab Contractors” The two Egyptians, and the second alliance includes the two Egyptian companies, “CCECC” and “CRCC” from China, “Samcrete” and “Arab Organization for Industrialization”.

3 sectors

According to the “Egypt Projects Map”, the project is divided into 3 sectors, the first linking the Administrative Capital, East Cairo, to the 6th of October City, West of Giza, with a length of 122 km, and the second linking the 6th of October City to El Alamein City through one of two lanes, the first with a length of 221 km And it is parallel to Wadi Al-Natrun Al-Alamein Road passing through Burj Al Arab Airport with a length of 99 km, and the second with a length of 244 km in the city of Burj Al Arab and branches out from it a link to Alexandria with a length of 46 km, while the third sector connects the Administrative Capital to Ain Sokhna Port with a length of 92 km.

The speed of the train is 250 kilometers per hour, which means cutting the distance from Ain Sokhna through the New Capital, then Cairo, Giza, 6 October, Alexandria, and even El Alamein, in just two and a half hours.

Thorough renovation

The project is the first phase of the Egypt express train project, which aims to construct a completely new railway line with new luxury tourist stations and express trains of 2000 km length in 3 stages, the first between El Alamein and Ain Sokhna, the second between Alexandria in the far north, Aswan in the far south, and the third Between Ain Sokhna, Hurghada and Luxor.
